PICA WITH AYURVEDA TREATMENT
What is PICA?
If your child or someone whom you know are eating some non-food objects like mud, clay or chalk piece, or something else which is not related to food… Then beware, because it is a medical condition called PICA.
"It is disorder of persistent craving and compulsive eating of non food substances"
It is seen peculiarly in children, however it is also seen in adults, in all age groups and both genders. Some of the most commonly described types of pica are eating like earth, soil or clay called as geophagia eating ice is pagophagia, starch called as amylophagia.
A higher incidence of pica is associated some other conditions like in pregnancy, developmental delay and mental retardation, early childhood, psychiatric related issues like autism, poor nutrition such as low levels of iron or other minerals.
Causes and symptoms of PICA:-
Evidence suggests that there may be several causes of pica such as iron deficiency or calcium deficiency or such mineral deficiencies also play important role.
Some psychological issues like OCD or obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, developmental disorders including autism, and mental retardation though these conditions are not related to iron deficiency.
However some people believe in eating non-food substances that may show positive health or spiritual effects or cultural way where experts can only educate them and counsel them in such as way they have to follow properly regimens.
Complications :-
gastric related issues, constipation, intestinal and bowel diseases, cramps, pain, obstruction and sometimes parasitic infections, and injuries to gastrointestinal wall may occur depending up on the objects that an individual eats such as gravels or nails etcetera.
There are chances of poisoning such as lead or mercury poisoning if children or adults who are eating such non-food items continuously.
Diagnosis of PICA
With proper history taking, behaviour of the individual, and through observation, and eating habits of children, and associated issues like history of anemic conditions, one can diagnose the condition and chose for proper line of treatment.
Treatment of Pica:-
Depending up on the cause and type of Pica, treatment varies, however, proper counselling and therapies are necessary and enough diet correction with supplements are necessary to the individual who is having deficiencies like iron deficiency, or calcium deficiencies or other mineral deficiencies.
Example: If an individual with iron deficiency anemia with pica, they have to get proper treatment for iron deficiency anemia and gradually pica can be managed.
In ayurveda there are many herbal medications with different properties like rejuvenators, metabolism enhancers, and even supplements that help to maintain nutritional balance. Special diet counselling may also help in this Pica condition.

My age is 30 I also feels to have ashes, and if I take iron tablets or any iron food supplements it will tempt anymore. So, can I take the above tablet. And will there be any possibiliteis of causing jaundice because in English medicines there is. And in above tablets which tablet shall I take suggest me.
